WILLINGNESS TO SPEAK: WHAT FACTORS INFLUENCE EFL LEARNERS?

چکیده

The online learning mode has dramatically altered the manner of way how communication is conducted in at higher education or schools for past two years. It led to a considerable change carried out, transferring it from an offline setting that permits long distance connection and communication. However, this effect on students’ engagement class as many them exhibit passive unresponsive behavior participating sessions. This qualitative study aims explore influencing factors affect students' willingness participate zoom sessions during classes English Department, Universitas Jambi. data was gathered through classroom observations interviews with six EFL learners, then analyzed based theoretical built-themes Willingness Communicate (WTC). finding reveals 1) demotivating influence learners’ speak were derived by situational factor such difficult task types models, unfamiliar topic discussion, lecturers’ personal characteristics, inconvenienced time schedule meeting trouble Internet connection. While 2) depressing influenced psychological component, comprised lack self-confidence, low level language proficiency, L2 anxiety individual personality.
